RMT Maritime – Save Our Seafarers (SOS 2020)
Following the RMT’s successful campaign to extend national minimum wage entitlement to all seafarers on domestic shipping routes, the SOS 2020 fringe will hear from RMT officials, members and local Labour MPs on the crucial next phase. Due to the widespread practice of ‘low cost’ crewing, the pandemic left hundreds of thousands of seafarers trapped on ships across the world, damaging their health, undermining safety and making a mockery of international law. RMT is fighting for reforms that drive ‘low cost’ operators out of UK waters and provide quality, unionised jobs for generations in the green maritime and offshore industries that will deliver the net zero carbon economy for us all.
