A SENIOR Lib Dem Liverpool Cllr has joined Labour. Cllr Ian Jobling said he could no longer belong to a party of ‘double standards and hypocrisy’. The respected Picton ward councillor, who also sits on the police authority, added he couldn't stomach the coalition's cuts that could see the loss of up to 240 police jobs on Merseyside. He said: "Our manifesto in May clearly stated that there would be no cuts before 2011/12 because it would cost jobs. "Since then there have been the Area Based Grant cuts, Building Schools for the Future cuts, we’ve got the VAT rise coming up in January, and I just thought, ‘this is not what I fought for’." Liverpool Labour Council leader Joe Anderson said: "I’m delighted with his decision to join the Labour Party and we will welcome him as we would welcome other disaffected Lib-Dems."
